Hep B Companion is a non-profit dedicated to advocate for the rights of all those affected by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and ensure access to healthcare, testing, and clinical research.

Our vision is to empower people living with hepatitis B and moving forwards towards a cure.

Hep B Companion was founded in 2024 by two people striking up a conversation in King’s College Hospital’s liver outpatients and sharing each other’s stories on growing up and living with hepatitis B.

Realising that hepatitis b is a complicated condition and navigating around the information led to inconsistencies and with a lack of support available for people living with the condition

These founders were determined to do something, they formed the UK’s first and only dedicated hepatitis B organisation.

We are a peer-led organisation, which means that the majority of our staff and volunteers have been affected by hepatitis B directly or indirectly. Our combined lived experience ensures that the patient’s voice remains at the heart of everything we do.

Claire Martin, Co-Founder

Claire is a freelance HR Director, was diagnosed with Hepatitis B in 1979 and has been under the care of King’s Liver Unit in London since. Through wellbeing and lifestyle changes, along with starting tenofovir in 2010, her health has significantly improved, with a 2023 scan showing no liver scarring. She now advocates for the rights of people living with Hepatitis B and has been on clinical trial to potentially eliminate the virus.
